Agnew, Spiro Theodore Agnew, Spiro Theodore sper ´o [key], 1918â€"96, 39th Vice President of the United States (1969â€"73), b. Baltimore. Admitted to the bar in 1949, he entered politics as a Republican and was elected (1961) chief executive of Baltimore co. He later became (1967) governor of Maryland, where he won passage of an open housing law and expanded the state's antipoverty programs. Nominated (1968) for the vice presidency on the Republican ticket with Richard M. Nixon, Agnew campaigned on a law-and-order platform. As Vice President, he attacked opponents of the Vietnam War as disloyal, criticized intellectuals and college students for questioning traditional values, and frequently accused the media of biased news coverage. In the 1970 congressional campaigns, he campaigned against liberals and antiwar candidates in both parties. Reelected with Nixon in 1972, Agnew was forced to resign on Oct. 10, 1973, after a Justice Dept. investigation uncovered evidence of corruption during his years in Mary land politics; he was said to have continued to accept bribes while Vice President. He pleaded no contest to a charge of federal income tax evasion, was sentenced to three years' probation and fined $10,000, and was disbarred (1974) in Maryland. See biographies by J. Gigantic beech, magnolia, sweet gum, and oak trees shade the lowland areas, and the understood flowers all year long with everything from columbine, native azalea, and sage to leafless, bottlers, and the lovely January-blooming topmasts lily. The river floodplain trail is the best way to see the many faces of the area. In 30 minutes, you will go through natural tunnels, climb boulders, see virgin forest and some of the largest trees in the state, and be able to peek into several caves. The horse trails may also be hiked and loop along spring runs and through deep forest. Riders must provide their own horses. The Chipolata River bisects the park from north to south and is joined within it by two spring runs. In the middle of the park, the river dips below ground for more than 1,000 yards before reappearing. A century ago, a channel was cut across the natural bridge so logs could be floated downstream. The ditch is narrow, fast, obstructed, and not recommended for the inexperienced paddled. Fed by rainwater and springs, the Chipolata can be very clear and is an easy paddle stream or down. Alligators bask in the few sunny spots, discouraging river swimming. Even so, there is a great spring group about a mile upstream of the boat ramp. Called Bezel, the main spring has a clear shallow run from the east and leads to a lovely spring pool that strongly invites a dip, even a skinny dip when no one is around. Three more springs line the banks just below and above Bezel, and the park is a popular pull-out for overnight and weekend cancers. The official swimming area is yet another spring called Blue Hole. The spring forms three pools, one of which has a nice beach and dive littoral. The water in the main spring is a deep, milky blue and its 68 degrees are very refreshing on a hot summer day. We have mastered this culture to a T, almost to he point where outsiders could not tell the difference between a private school kid coming from Prince Georges county from a hoodlum coming from the depths of the Inner-city; the parents of whom may have come from none other than surrounding ghettos such as Southern D. C. These people start earning a little bit of money that exceeds their prior means and immediately want to move out of the ghetto and into the first gated community with mansion style homes. They went to lower class D. C public schools such as Blue and Corpora and happened to catch a break, rise above, go to college, and make enough money to move out of the hood. The moved to neighborhoods such as Londoner, Bowie, and Glendale and bought huge houses for themselves and their families along with beautiful cars and clothes. However, they may be living beyond their means, They gained Just enough money to purchase these items but not enough money to maintain them. They may own houses without furniture or cars they cannot afford to pay the note on. Maybe they should not have been so 1 OFF t really their problem? My opinion is that there is no real problem in Prince Georges county. There is no real reason why Prince Georges County should have to be concerned with conforming to the rest of Americas views of what the black image should be. If the teenagers want to dress like hoodlums, why shouldnt they be able to? It would be more of a problem if they were committing thuggish activity rather than Just appearing like they would do such things. One might say they are misrepresenting the community but at that age is that really a concern and is it really misrepresentation? The parents who have raised the teenagers grew up in the very environment that these styles originated. Maybe these teenagers are expressing the only style and culture theyve ever learned to know which influences the children around them who may have been raised otherwise. For those who wish to give back to the community then there should be nothing stopping them, but otherwise, why should it be their priority? If hey came from the same community and were given the exact same opportunity, then why should they be forced to partake in helping those who had the exact same capability of helping themselves? They cant be looked down upon for helping themselves, obviously that got them to where they are today. In conclusion, wannabe thugs in P. G County will forever be present unless its surrounding cities cease to influence it. Teenagers like to be in-sync with the times. If hood style clothing is what is being worn all around them, then they will, by all means, take part in that same looting. In my opinion, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that when its all in good spirits. As far as the parents of these teenagers go, they are doing nothing wrong either. If they dont wish to go back and help the communities they came from, then why should they be forced when the community has not done anything but possibly hurt them? As far as this subject is concerned, the people of P. G County cannot be slandered. Instead of finding the Problem with P. G people should work on perfecting their own African American communities so that we can all prosper.

It arises at sunset when the sea surface is warmer than the adjacent land due to the land cooling off faster and having a lower heat capacity, and continues into the early morning hours until the heating of the day begins.
